SEO for HTTP and HTTPs

There’s virtually no information anywhere that helps understand the potential challenges for HTTP/HTTPS optimization. Based on my observations and technical knowledge, here’s the top things to watch out for when you are optimizing HTTP/HTTPs – and resolutions for each. 1. Duplicate Content and Canonicalization Because the protocols (http/https) are different, they are considered two separate sites, so there’s a good chance to get penalized for duplicate content. If the search engine discovers two identical pages, generally it would take the page it saw first and ignore the other pages. Solutions: 1. Be smart about the site structure: to keep the engines from crawling and indexing HTTPS pages, structure the website so that HTTPs are only accessible through a form submission (log-in, sign-up, or payment pages). The common mistake is making these pages available via a standard link (happens when you are either ignorant or not aware that the secure version of the site is being cr...

Better page titles in search results

Page titles are an important part of our search results: they’re the first line of each result and they’re the actual links our searchers click to reach websites. Our advice to webmasters has always been to write unique, descriptive page titles (and meta descriptions for the snippets) to describe to searchers what the page is about. We use many signals to decide which title to show to users, primarily the tag if the webmaster specified one. But for some pages, a single title might not be the best one to show for all queries, and so we have algorithms that generate alternative titles to make it easier for our users to recognize relevant pages. Our testing has shown that these alternative titles are generally more relevant to the query and can substantially improve the clickthrough rate to the result, helping both our searchers and webmasters. About half of the time, this is the reason we show an alternative title. Other times, alternative titles are displayed for pages that have ...

How To Earn Money via Blogging | Google AdSense & Blogger : An introduction

If you've been thinking about monetizing your blog and are unfamiliar with how Google AdSense works, here are the three things you need to know: 1. AdSense is built into Blogger: You can easily sign up and start showing ads on your blog, without having to leave Blogger, by clicking on the "Earnings" tab in your dashboard. After completing the AdSense application, the next step is to designate where you want the ads to appear on your blog. Once your application is approved, we’ll start serving ads and you’ll start making money. And unlike many other blogging platforms, Blogger doesn’t take a cut of your revenue. 2. AdSense serves relevant ads on your blogs: AdSense works by matching text and image ads to your blog based on your content and the types of users that visit your site. For example, if you write about running, your readers may see ads next to your post about running shoes and equipment. Ads are created and paid for by advertisers who want to promote their p...

"The new design is not only cleaner and more modern, but it also uses Google Web Toolkit, delivering the latest in web technology." The new interface is now available in Blogger in Draft , but it looks quite different. "Over the last couple of months, we've made significant improvements to our new user interface. First and foremost, we've incorporated your feedback and made numerous fixes based on that feedback. Also, we've updated the look and feel of our new design, inspired by Google's newest design evolutions," explains Google . Blogger uses Ajax, so all the pages load a lot faster, including the post editor. Unfortunately, Blogger is still very slow when you perform a search and try to display posts or comments.
